You know you're just a mama's boy

I have to wonder if the NYT is trying to be funny with a headline like that. Especially when this seems to be so close to the truth.

Sadly, no mention of Clay. Guess he was in the Peace Corps or something.

I need four walls around me to hold my life

Via KennyKellogg, I note that Paul Kedrosky describes SoCal exurb Temecula as if it were an Anasazi ruin, as freshly-constructed American subdivisions are "emptying out."

My amigo Laz is fond of pointing out my prescience in describing the hastily-constructed suburbs of Las Vegas and Phoenix as future disaster areas. What a strange sight it will be, when yesterday's McMansions are tomorrow's slums.

Incredibly, no one's done Sticky Fingers yet. (Front or back!)

White Whine II

"Don't they know people in Marin will shop at an IKEA if they build one here? It really sucks to have to drive all the way back from the East Bay with a load of furniture in the Prius."

Waiting for the UFOs

Karl Rove has taken to referring to Dennis Kucinich in a way that seems to imply that he's nuts:

"Think about that," Rove said. "She's running against nobody and nobody gets 40% of the vote. The other 5% of the vote went to three other people. 27,924 votes went to the guy who believes in UFOs, the guy who dropped out and the guy who last held public office somewhere around 1855."

*

Wonder if Rove would be willing to characterize Ronald Reagan in the same fashion:

Two of these Reagan UFO encounters have become public.... "I was in a plane last week when I looked out the window and saw this white light. It was zigzagging around. I went up to the pilot and said, ‘Have you seen anything like that before?’ He was shocked and said, ‘Nope.’ And I said to him: ‘Let’s follow it!’

We followed it for several minutes. It was a bright white light. We followed it to Bakersfield, and all of a sudden to our utter amazement it went straight up into the heavens. When we got off the plane, I told Nancy all about it.’"

White Whine

"Gosh, it's so hard to find a cobbler who can re-sole my cowboy boots in a reasonable amount of time -- I hate wearing the other ones three days in a row. And since my local one started getting such good Yelp reviews, it's impossible to park anywhere near him!"

As he slowly walked by, the weeping willows would cry for joy

Happy 70th birthday to one of my favorites. Hope he has a happy day -- and more importantly, a sweet Southern Night. His solo performance of that song with extended monologue at the Herbst last summer was among my very favorite musical moments of 2007.
